These three faces keep saying they can't believe this trip is already here. After a year or more of discussing and planning, the adventure is really, really upon us. We grocery shopped yesterday.
I had been scouring the isles of our grocery store for interesting meal possibilities for weeks, and while I have maintained that I want to be super simple with food, I was excited to discover a few items that weren't around in 2004 when I was a "through-hiker," and am pretty happy about my food choices.
One major change is that I am now a full-blown coffee addict. This didn't actually come to be until about a year ago. I'm also a bit of a coffee snob. We had planned on picking up the Via instant coffee sticks from Starbucks...and we did...to the tune of $20.00 for enough for one 8 oz cup per day of our trek. Ugh. That seemed like a lot after just purchasing everything else and simply wanting to be done with the spending and onto the packing.
After perusing he options at the big box store which shall remain unnamed, Tammi and I decided to return our Vias in exchange for some regular old instant coffee. Tasters choice, to be exact. We are giving up many luxuries in this endeavor- why not go luxury-less on coffee? (For the record, Amy will be drinking Starbucks for the 6 days she is with us...and we will be jealous)
Here's my test run!
On to more important things, like weighing my pack and trying to get my house clean for the start of my time away...
This is Brian - You should add some water. Your test run looks a bit dry and airy.
