The One Where "Lifeguard" Leaves our Trio...

This is an Ode. An ode to our "Lifeguard." Our trip is now a duo, and it's because the girl whom you may have known as Amy has completed her journey.

"Lifeguard" is her trail name for several reasons, as most of the names I come up with typically are. Her bathing-suit looking, pink hiking attire and lifeguard whistle around her neck are perhaps the surface reasoning, but the 2 canisters of bear mace, the med-kit that would have been overkill for a group of twenty, and the taser she carried so willingly, we could only turn to her to guard our lives, should anything- anything- have threatened them.
Lifeguard was as strong a section hiker as they come. Her humor was injected at every difficult hurdle like oil on a squeaky wheel. Her hurdles weren't small, either; A blister the size of the entire toe it enveloped for one, and a bum knee that looked like a gelatinous cantaloupe at one point... The girl rocked this trip.
I may sound as though we are laying her to rest, but the fact of the matter is that she blew this joint this morning. She took her $4 shower (for which she'd have paid $50), sank into a freshly laundered Life-is Good t-shirt, and hugged our smelly asses goodbye. It was every bit deserved. She completed her 6-day journey on the AT well, and I think she had a great time. I bet I'll get her out here again one day some time from now- but for the time being, "Right Hook" and I are going to have a tough time filling our "Lifeguard" void as we move on.
